Apr 11 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Next Meeting: Thursday April 11th
Hazards Cyclesport
6:00 PM

We have an incredibly special guest lined up for our April meeting!

Recognized the world over as the “Voice of IRONMAN,” Mike Reilly has called over 180 IRONMAN events, including 30 straight years of the World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. More than 350,000 athletes have heard his iconic pronouncement, “You are an IRONMAN!” as they crossed the finish line.

Every one of those athletes has a story, and Mike has heard hundreds of them. Ever passionate about the sport and its participants, he listened closely as they poured out remarkable tales that illuminate the human capacity for triumphing over seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Mike is coming to SB Tri to talk about some of those stories, from his new book, MIKE REILLY: Finding My Voice. He’ll have copies available for SB Tri members to buy and which he’ll be happy to sign. If you already have a copy, he’ll sign that!

Save the Date - you will NOT want to miss this!  Dinner included!

Julie Moss Book Signing and Happy Hour @ TBD
May 9 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us for an evening with Julie Moss! We were fortunate to have Julie Moss visit the club back in 2017, and we're excited to have her back to discuss her new book, Crawl of Fame: Julie Moss and the Fifteen Feet that Created an Ironman Triathlon Legend.

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Julie, you don't want to miss tonight!

After her talk, there will be time for Questions and Answers, followed by a book signing.

Books will be available for purchase for $20.

About the book:

Crawl of Fame: Julie Moss and the Fifteen Feet that Created an Ironman Triathlon Legend
In 1982, Julie Moss ran the Ironman triathlon for her college senior research project. Her idea was quirky, even crazy; only a handful of hardcore, highly trained enthusiasts competed in the little-known, 140.6-mile combination of swimming, cycling, and running. Julie brought no experience or appreciable training beyond running two marathons. She did bring a latent willpower that, the world soon found out, wouldn’t be denied. What happened next changed Ironman forever . . .

After becoming the unlikely leader during the marathon, the final leg of the Ironman, Julie fell and lost all bodily function fifteen meters (50 feet) from the finish. While on hands and knees, she watched her rival pass her. Thirty seconds later, she crawled across the line?stunning the millions who were watching on television. At age twenty-three, Julie became the instant global icon, and the public face of fitness and endurance sports ? which exploded in popularity, partly because of her inspiration. That this young co-ed would represent such a new sport was unlikely. That she would inspire millions to change the courses of their lives in the three decades years since was unthinkable. Yet, it happened.

Crawl of Fame is the long-awaited release of her incredible story. Julie describes how she found her greater purpose while lying across the finish line at Ironman 1982 ? and how that greater purpose as a woman, athlete, endurance sports symbol and, now, iconic figure has defined her life and inspired others since.

Please join us Saturday June 4 at Echelon's 2nd Cycling Skills Clinic, led by  Coaches Jill Gass (https://www.revolutioncoaching.com/jill-gass) & Nate Loyal (https://www.loyalcoaching.com/about)

Skills Clinic Registration (http://echelonsantabarbara.org/calendar) The last time we did this (Pre-Covid) it was a great success; you won't want to  miss this opportunity to learn new skills or brush up (on what you think you know.)

  • If you are nervous about riding in a group - this is for you.
  • If drafting seems crazy - this is for you.
  • If you watch bicycle racing on tv and wonder about pace lines - this is  for you.
  • If riding too close makes you uncomfortable - this is for you.
  • If you want to learn how to do an emergency stop - this is for you.
  • If you want to improve your bike handling skills - this is for you.
  • Want to be a better climber? Likewise.
  • Do you want to be a more confident descender? We can help with that.
  • Do you want to be a smarter, safer rider?

If you think you already have all the necessary skills, you'll be surprised  at what you can learn in a day working with coaches with the expertise  of Jill & Nate. (Plus, it's really a lot of fun!)

It takes a lot of work to put this together - we have USAC permits & insurance and  we will cover the cost of the one-day USAC license you'll need. Echelon Santa Barbara (http://echelonsantabarbara.org) is doing this as a service to the community. We'll even provide lunch!

All you need to do is take advantage of this great opportunity. June 4 is  approaching! Register Now! (http://echelonsantabarbara.org/calendar) If we don't have a sufficient number of participants we may have to cancel! To maximize  your experience this is limited to 12 riders.
