The Strawberry Fields events have slipped under my radar until now. After reviewing the event web site it became apparent that the Olympic distance race is very similar, if not identical, to the original Oxnard Triathlon, sponsored by the now defunct Fleet Feet Sports and Rob Fukatomi, of Mike & Robs fame. I then rummaged through my kitchen and found a coffee mug from the original Bud Light, or is it InBev, Oxnard Triathlon, 1991. Hmm, 17 years, oh well. This race was always well populated and usually provided a tough swim off Oxnard Beach. It appears that Shigy Suzuki and Lee Carter did not find the event too taxing as they both placed highly, Shigy in 10th overall and Lee in 24th overall. Ryan Borger won the Sprint race.
