Battle in the Sands is our annual Head to Head fun competition against the UCSB Triclub! Bragging rights are at stake!
Help SB Tri Club get back the title! We need YOU SB TRI CLUB MEMBER to sign up for our relay team of swimmers and runners. You can let us know if you'd prefer to swim, run or open to either or both! All levels are welcome and EVERYONE is encouraged to attend!!
The approximate swim distance is 500m ocean swim.
The approximate run distance is a 1-2 mile beach run.
Please sign up to participate (swim, run, both, either, volunteer to help) - HERE
Format of the event: Each club creates multiple 6 person relay teams (all women team, all men team, co-ed team), and the relay works like this: swim to run to swim to run to swim to run (3 swimmers and 3 runners per team). The club that has at least two out of three victories wins the trophy. We need as many participants as possible as we will field as many teams as possible, everyone participates!!
Look for the SB Tri Club tent on the beach in front of the Bathhouse. Help us crush UCSB Tri, then hang with the club, post race snack and beautiful sunshine provided!!

Carpinteria is a beautiful beach town on the Central Coast located between Santa Barbara and Ventura.
The Carpinteria Beach, known as the “World’s Safest Beach,” is very special and has been rated the #1 swimming beach in California, due mostly to its Southern exposure and its protection by the Channel Islands. Swimmers will usually enjoy small surf and the absence of riptides at our unique beach.
The bike course, an open course and large loop, travels along the foothills offering some spectacular ocean views. Both the olympic and sprint courses offer the participant a challenging ride, although the sprint course is also very well suited for the novice triathlete.
The run course, also an open course, winds through some quaint Carpinteria neighborhoods and is mostly a flat loop course.
The Carpinteria Triathlon is a benefit event for the City’s Parks & Recreation youth programs. Proceeds will help to provide scholarships and additional equipment for programs such as Junior Lifeguards and our ocean recreation programs.

We have an incredibly special guest lined up for our April meeting!

Recognized the world over as the “Voice of IRONMAN,” Mike Reilly has called over 180 IRONMAN events, including 30 straight years of the World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. More than 350,000 athletes have heard his iconic pronouncement, “You are an IRONMAN!” as they crossed the finish line.
Every one of those athletes has a story, and Mike has heard hundreds of them. Ever passionate about the sport and its participants, he listened closely as they poured out remarkable tales that illuminate the human capacity for triumphing over seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Mike is coming to SB Tri to talk about some of those stories, from his new book, MIKE REILLY: Finding My Voice. He’ll have copies available for SB Tri members to buy and which he’ll be happy to sign. If you already have a copy, he’ll sign that!
Save the Date - you will NOT want to miss this! Dinner included!
