Thank you to everyone that voted, and a big Congratulations to our 2019 award winners:

Rookie of the Year: Taylor Bleeker

This year’s Rookie of the Year jumped right into the deep end of triathlon, targeting Ironman Canada for his first full. Running a sub-4 hour marathon after climbing 8,000’ on the bike, this rookie finished with an impressive time of 11:32:55. The SB Tri Club is proud to award Taylor Bleeker Rookie of the Year!

Most Improved: Sam Sosa

Our Most Improved Triathlete of the year stepped up his game racing distances longer than he has done before. Finishing his first marathon in 3:45 and PR-ing this year’s SB Tri Long Course, this triathlete was ready for the big show. Headed off in just a few short days to compete in Ironman Florida- his first full distance Ironman, Sam Sosa will also carry with him the award for Most Improved Triathlete of the Year! Congrats Sam!

Best Comeback: Amy Steward

Sprained ankle, pulled hamstring, and bulging disks are just a few of the injuries our award recipient overcame. 2019 proved healthier and this triathlete was back! Early in the year she set at 40 min PR at Oceanside, then went on to finish her first full Ironman in Whistler, Canada with an impressive time of 13:37 on one of the toughest courses on the IM circuit. Our Comeback of the Year Award goes to Amy Steward!

Race of the Year: Cindy Abrami

This year our Race of the Year recipient traveled to Spain to defend her ITU World Championship title! It was a tight race with Great Britain but she was able to hold her lead and finished 16 seconds before her competitor, keeping her title as ITU Sprint Duathlon World Champion. For the second year in a row the winner of our Race of the Year award is Cindy Abrami!

Triathlete of the Year: Tom Rizk

Training and racing under the radar, but often seen on the podium, this year’s Triathlete of the Year award could not go to a more deserving guy! He finished first in his age group at the SB Tri Long course and second in his age group at Ironman Canada, his 6th IM finish! He went on to set a Personal Record for his 70.3 races (he has 23 of them under his belt) at Santa Cruz and earlier in the year, at Honu, qualified for the 70.3 World Championships! Consistently on top and always representing SB Tri, our 2019 Triathlete of the Year is Tom Rizk!
